Wild ONE!

If I were to add all the photos we’ve taken in the last 6 months, you would probably be scrolling for a good hour or two. The last 6 months were a whirlwind of emotions for everyone. COVID-19 struck and all of our plans for spring and summer were basically thrown out the window. We still managed to make the most of it so far though, and celebrated your Wild One themed birthday party with our families at cottages this year.

I’m trying to find words to encapsulate what this year has brought us, but I really don’t know what to say besides the fact that I love you more than life. You have given my life so much more purpose. You’ve made me want to work harder than I ever have before. You’ve made me think about the legacy I should aim to leave behind before my time is up here. You’ve helped me understand that there’s more to life than work… Well David, what matters you ask? It’s the way the wind blows through the trees and leaves that matter. It’s watching the birds in amazement as they graze for insects through our front lawn that matters. It’s enjoying a banana to the very last piece and making satisfied sounds after each bite that matters.

This first year has been an absolute rollercoaster on so many levels. We went almost 4 months without seeing family members. You went from 7 months to almost 11 months without being held or kissed from your extended family. It was just mom and me, watching you day in and day out without a minute of our own…. It took a toll on both us and you. We’re so glad that we’re just about through the COVID-19 pandemic and we’re all together again, and things are (almost) back to normal.

In these last 6 months, you’ve learned to crawl, stand, walk (sometimes), say a few words, eat solids like a champ, clap your hands together, high-five, sleep on your own without much of our help, and so much more… Your first words were “No! No! No!” and of course “Wow!”. You’ve said “Dada” and “Mama” a lot too, and sometimes I can catch you saying “More” or “Hey Google”. Haha.
I’m so proud of everything that you’ve accomplished in the last 6 months. I’m still baffled by the fact that you stood up and basically walked before you started crawling, but everyone’s different.

All in all though, I owe it to your mom so much. She is the rock to our family and just always knows what to do in certain situations and how to take care of you. As for me, I’m just faking it until I make it. I’m learning as I go, and most of the time learning from her. I couldn’t have asked for a better mom to my son, and a better wife to me.

But, I could ramble on for hours about everything… I am so proud of you and everything you’ve done in this last year and the impact you’ve made on our lives, and I just can’t wait for the next year together! Love, Momma and Dada!
