1 1/2 years old!

Walking? Check. Talking? Check. Sleeping through the night? Check. It’s amazing how much babies grow in 6 months, let alone one month. I finally understand why parents get so granular when they tell you how old their kid is.

“He”s 21 months old now.” Never really understood it before, but now I get it. These past 6 months have been really challenging with Covid-19. Even though we had the pandemic through the summer, it was a blast. Restrictions weren’t as tight as they are right now (January 2021), and we ended up going to plenty of cottages for 3 or 4 weeks.

August – January is the timeframe in which Nate grew the most, I think. His vocabulary grew from “Google” and “Mommy/Daddy” to so much more. He’s saying things like “Go there” or “Yes, Please”, and he’s starting to put sentences together now. He’s a smart, goofy and sweet little boy that we’ve watched grow up these past 6 months.

Nate started daycare in September, and boy was that a bit of a tear fest. The first couple of weeks were rough, but he got used to it, and eventually made friends (Liam/Jackson) that he apparently hugs and stays stuck to the hip to at daycare. I’ve realized that he’s such a chill little boy, and as long as he’s having fun, he doesn’t seem to care about where he is.

Nate is adventurous and will often seek out making his own path or will want to go in his own direction when you’re out going for a walk with him. He’s friendly and sweet, and will often go up to the other kids at the playground and smile at them, stare at them, and watch what they’re doing. He loves to watch what the bigger kids are doing, and will often try and do those same things himself.

Nate eats on his own with a fork and spoon, and probably eats more than Nicole and is coming close to what I eat now, haha. He absolutely LOVES dinosaurs, and makes these hilarious sounds of screeching, grunts, and yells that is supposedly mimicking his favourite dinosaurs. He loves farm animals, books, Christmas lights, snowmen, Santa Claus and Christmas trees, going for walks (he can walk for blocks on his own without our help), and the list goes on.

All in all though — we both look forward to seeing him grow up and learn new things, but part of me can’t help but just want him to stay in this cute phase that he’s in right now. The pandemic has really slowed things down for us, and has made us realized how much we took simple things for granted. Oh how I wish we could head over to a friend or families house without having to be conscious about the whole situation, and we could just give them a big HUG like we used to.

It’s been great to be able to see our little boy more through the pandemic though… to be able to head over to his daycare to pick him up at 4:30, or not having to rush in the morning is always a treat too.

Until the next post!
